Being a young adult can feel both exciting and overwhelming.

You’re figuring out who you are, what you want, and how to balance the many pressures of life — relationships, identity, school, work, and the uncertainty of what’s next.

It’s a lot to carry, especially in a world that moves fast and doesn’t always make space for rest, reflection, or authenticity.
At Desert Lotus Counseling, we offer therapy for young adults and college students to help you slow down, make sense of what you’re feeling, and find your footing again. You don’t need to have it all figured out to begin — therapy is a place to explore, grow, and reconnect with yourself in an affirming, nonjudgmental space.

Our Approach

We work from a trauma-informed, integrative perspective that combines evidence-based therapy with mindfulness, somatic awareness, and practical skill-building. We know that mental health challenges during young adulthood often intersect with identity, relationships, systemic pressures, and the search for belonging.

Our therapists support you in:

Managing anxiety, depression, and burnout related to school, work, or life transitions

Exploring your identity, values, and life direction

Navigating relationship challenges and communication patterns

Building healthy boundaries and self-confidence

Understanding how past experiences shape current stress or self-doubt

Developing emotional regulation and nervous system tools for resilience

Creating balance between independence and connection

Do you take insurance?

Yes. Desert Lotus Counseling accepts insurance, though coverage varies by clinician. We are currently contracted with several major insurance companies, including Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, and United Healthcare. Because every plan is different, we encourage you to contact your insurance provider directly to verify your mental health benefits and copay information before your first session. If you’d like support with this process, our team is happy to help. We also offer self-pay options for those who prefer not to use insurance.

What is the cost of self-pay sessions?

Our self-pay rate is $120 per 50-minute session. Many clients appreciate that self-pay allows for more flexibility, privacy, and freedom to tailor therapy to their individual needs and goals.

Who do you work with?

We work with adults 18+, primarily with young adults and college students, professionals, and members of the LGBTQIA+ community in Tucson, Arizona (and throughout the state) who are seeking support around anxiety, trauma, burnout, life transitions, and identity exploration.

Our therapists take a trauma-informed, inclusive, and affirming approach that honors your full humanity — including your background, values, gender identity, and sexuality. Whether you’re seeking tools to manage anxiety, process past experiences, or reconnect with yourself, you’ll find a compassionate space here.

What should I expect when working with you?

Therapy at Desert Lotus Counseling is a collaborative and empowering process. You can expect your therapist to:

  • Listen with presence and without judgment
  • Offer honest, compassionate feedback when it supports your growth
  • Integrate evidence-based tools from CBT, mindfulness, and somatic approaches
  • Create a space where you can show up authentically and feel deeply supported

In our first few sessions, we’ll explore what brings you to therapy, clarify your goals, and develop a personalized plan that fits your life.

Do you accept student insurance plans?

Several of our therapists are in-network with the United Healthcare Student Resources plan (student insurance for University of Arizona, Northern Arizona University, and Arizona State University.) These plans require a referral that can be obtained with a quick call to your Campus Health Services. We’re happy to help you verify your coverage or provide documentation for out-of-network reimbursement if needed.

Do you offer telehealth or virtual sessions?

Yes. We provide secure online therapy (telehealth) for clients throughout Arizona. Virtual sessions offer the same level of care and connection as in-person appointments — with the convenience of meeting from your home or another private space. Many clients choose to combine in-person and online sessions depending on their needs and schedule.

Where are you located?

Our office is located at: 2101 N. Country Club, Tucson, AZ 85716. We’re in the heart of Tucson’s historic Blenman Elm Neighborhood, on Country Club between Pima and Grant.

What is your cancellation policy?

We require at least 24 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule your session. Cancellations made with less than 24 hours’ notice and no-shows will be subject to a $90 late cancellation fee. We understand that life happens and appreciate open communication whenever possible.

Do you see couples or families?

Our focus is on individual therapy. If you’re looking for couples or family therapy, we’re glad to provide trusted referrals to clinicians who specialize in that work.

Do you work with children or teens?

Our therapists work with adults 18+. If you are seeking therapy for a child or teen, we would be happy to provide you with referrals.

Do you recommend any resources while we work together in therapy?

Yes. Many of our therapists share personalized recommendations to deepen your growth between sessions. These might include:

  • Mindfulness or grounding practices
  • Guided meditations and somatic tools
  • Reflective journaling prompts
  • Books and readings

We’ll always tailor resources to your interests, goals, and ways of learning — never one-size-fits-all.
