Learn More

Living with anxiety can feel like being on constant alert — your body tense, your mind racing, and rest always out of reach.

You might catch yourself overthinking, replaying conversations, or planning for every possible “what if.”

It’s exhausting to keep pushing through while trying to look like you have it all together. At Desert Lotus Counseling in Tucson, we specialize in anxiety therapy for young adults and LGBTQIA+ individuals. Our compassionate therapists help you uncover the roots of your anxiety, find relief in your body, and reconnect with your sense of ease and confidence.

What Anxiety Can Look Like:

Anxiety doesn’t always look like panic attacks — sometimes it’s a quiet undercurrent that never turns off. You might notice:

Constant worry or overthinking

Difficulty sleeping or relaxing

Tension, irritability, or physical restlessness

Panic attacks or heart-pounding fear

Perfectionism or fear of disappointing others

Struggles with boundaries, burnout, or people-pleasing

If these sound familiar, you’re not alone — and therapy can help.

Our Approach to Anxiety Counseling

At Desert Lotus Counseling, we take a trauma-informed, integrative approach to anxiety treatment. We blend evidence-based therapies like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness-based practices, and somatic (body-centered) awareness to support real, lasting change.

Healing anxiety isn’t only about managing thoughts — it’s about helping your body relearn what safety feels like. Together, we’ll:

Explore the roots of your anxiety and how past experiences shape current patterns

Develop practical tools to regulate your nervous system

Build awareness of the connection between mind, body, and emotions

Reconnect with self-trust, resilience, and inner calm

Our goal is to help you move from constant tension to a greater sense of presence, peace, and balance in your daily life.

Get Started

How Therapy for Anxiety Can Help:

  • Creating a safe space to slow down, feel supported, and make sense of what’s happening inside you.

  • Helping you understand the roots of your anxiety — including patterns, triggers, and past experiences that keep the cycle going.

  • Teaching tools to regulate your nervous system, so you can calm your body and mind when anxiety shows up.

  • Building awareness of your thoughts and emotions, allowing you to respond with choice instead of reaction.

  • Reducing physical symptoms like muscle tension, racing heart, or difficulty sleeping through somatic and mindfulness practices.

  • Improving relationships and boundaries, helping you feel more grounded and connected with others.

  • Fostering self-compassion so you can relate to yourself with understanding instead of criticism.

  • Supporting long-term change, not just quick relief — helping you feel more confident, resilient, and at peace in your daily life.

We may be a good fit if:

  • You’re ready to explore the deeper patterns that keep you feeling anxious or stuck.

  • You want to understand how your past experiences and identity shape the way you respond to stress.

  • You’re open to discovering new ways of relating to yourself — with curiosity instead of self-criticism.

  • You want to learn practical tools to calm your body, quiet your mind, and manage anxious thoughts more effectively.

  • You’re seeking a therapist who will meet you with both compassion and honesty — someone who offers gentle challenge alongside care.

  • You value collaboration and want to be an active participant in your healing process.

  • You’re ready to address difficult emotions, unlearn survival patterns, and begin to feel more grounded and confident.

  • You’re open to integrating evidence-based tools such as CBT, ACT, mindfulness, and somatic practices to support long-term change.

  • You want a space where your full identity — including your gender, sexuality, culture, and lived experience — is honored and affirmed.

Do you take insurance?

Yes. Desert Lotus Counseling accepts insurance, though coverage varies by clinician. We are currently contracted with several major insurance companies, including Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, and United Healthcare. Because every plan is different, we encourage you to contact your insurance provider directly to verify your mental health benefits and copay information before your first session. If you’d like support with this process, our team is happy to help. We also offer self-pay options for those who prefer not to use insurance.

What is the cost of self-pay sessions?

Our self-pay rate is $120 per 50-minute session. Many clients appreciate that self-pay allows for more flexibility, privacy, and freedom to tailor therapy to their individual needs and goals.

Who do you work with?

We work with adults 18+, primarily with young adults and college students, professionals, and members of the LGBTQIA+ community in Tucson, Arizona (and throughout the state) who are seeking support around anxiety, trauma, burnout, life transitions, and identity exploration.

Our therapists take a trauma-informed, inclusive, and affirming approach that honors your full humanity — including your background, values, gender identity, and sexuality. Whether you’re seeking tools to manage anxiety, process past experiences, or reconnect with yourself, you’ll find a compassionate space here.

What should I expect when working with you?

Therapy at Desert Lotus Counseling is a collaborative and empowering process. You can expect your therapist to:

  • Listen with presence and without judgment
  • Offer honest, compassionate feedback when it supports your growth
  • Integrate evidence-based tools from CBT, mindfulness, and somatic approaches
  • Create a space where you can show up authentically and feel deeply supported

In our first few sessions, we’ll explore what brings you to therapy, clarify your goals, and develop a personalized plan that fits your life.

Do you offer telehealth or virtual sessions?

Yes. We provide secure online therapy (telehealth) for clients throughout Arizona. Virtual sessions offer the same level of care and connection as in-person appointments — with the convenience of meeting from your home or another private space. Many clients choose to combine in-person and online sessions depending on their needs and schedule.

Where are you located?

Our office is located at: 2101 N. Country Club, Tucson, AZ 85716. We’re in the heart of Tucson’s historic Blenman Elm Neighborhood, on Country Club between Pima and Grant.

What is your cancellation policy?

We require at least 24 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule your session. Cancellations made with less than 24 hours’ notice and no-shows will be subject to a $90 late cancellation fee. We understand that life happens and appreciate open communication whenever possible.

Do you see couples or families?

Our focus is on individual therapy. If you’re looking for couples or family therapy, we’re glad to provide trusted referrals to clinicians who specialize in that work.

Do you work with children or teens?

Our therapists work with adults 18+. If you are seeking therapy for a child or teen, we would be happy to provide you with referrals.

Do you recommend any resources while we work together in therapy?

Yes. Many of our therapists share personalized recommendations to deepen your growth between sessions. These might include:

  • Mindfulness or grounding practices
  • Guided meditations and somatic tools
  • Reflective journaling prompts
  • Books and readings

We’ll always tailor resources to your interests, goals, and ways of learning — never one-size-fits-all.
