Therapy for Depression in Tucson, Arizona

Reconnect with your Body, Emotions, and Sense of Self

Learn More

When you’re living with depression, even the smallest things can start to feel heavy — getting out of bed, responding to messages, or doing the things you used to enjoy.

You might feel disconnected from yourself or others, trapped in self-criticism, or just tired of feeling this way.

At Desert Lotus Counseling, we understand that depression isn’t one-size-fits-all. It can show up as sadness or numbness, burnout or irritability, exhaustion or emptiness. However it looks for you, we’re here to help you find your way back to hope, connection, and meaning.

Our therapists provide inclusive, trauma-informed, and LGBTQIA+ affirming therapy for depression that helps you not only manage symptoms but understand the deeper patterns that keep you feeling stuck. We blend evidence-based approaches like CBT and mindfulness with somatic and relational work — so you can reconnect with your body, your emotions, and your sense of self.

Our Approach

We work from a trauma-informed, integrative perspective, blending evidence-based therapy with mindfulness, somatic awareness, and nervous system regulation. Healing depression isn’t just about changing your thoughts — it’s about helping your body, mind, and spirit reconnect with vitality, belonging, and a sense of possibility.

We also recognize that the weight of depression often doesn’t exist in isolation. Many of our clients carry the impact of oppression, discrimination, systemic injustice, and the collective heaviness of the world we live in. Our approach honors both your individual experience and the broader context you exist in.

Our therapists support you in:

Understanding the emotional, relational, and systemic roots of your depression

Reconnecting with your body to release numbness and restore energy

Building practical tools to manage hopelessness, fatigue, and self-criticism

Exploring how identity, culture, and lived experiences shape your inner world

Reclaiming your sense of meaning, joy, and connection

Learning to relate to yourself with curiosity, compassion, and self-trust

  • Explore identity, belonging, and purpose — especially for individuals who have felt unseen or unsupported.

  • Create small, meaningful shifts that bring back a sense of possibility and joy.

  • You value an affirming, inclusive space where all parts of you are welcome.

Do you take insurance?

Yes. Desert Lotus Counseling accepts insurance, though coverage varies by clinician. We are currently contracted with several major insurance companies, including Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, and United Healthcare. Because every plan is different, we encourage you to contact your insurance provider directly to verify your mental health benefits and copay information before your first session. If you’d like support with this process, our team is happy to help. We also offer self-pay options for those who prefer not to use insurance.

What is the cost of self-pay sessions?

Our self-pay rate is $120 per 50-minute session. Many clients appreciate that self-pay allows for more flexibility, privacy, and freedom to tailor therapy to their individual needs and goals.

Who do you work with?

We work with adults 18+, primarily with young adults and college students, professionals, and members of the LGBTQIA+ community in Tucson, Arizona (and throughout the state) who are seeking support around anxiety, trauma, burnout, life transitions, and identity exploration.

Our therapists take a trauma-informed, inclusive, and affirming approach that honors your full humanity — including your background, values, gender identity, and sexuality. Whether you’re seeking tools to manage anxiety, process past experiences, or reconnect with yourself, you’ll find a compassionate space here.

In our first few sessions, we’ll explore what brings you to therapy, clarify your goals, and develop a personalized plan that fits your life.

Do you offer telehealth or virtual sessions?

Yes. We provide secure online therapy (telehealth) for clients throughout Arizona. Virtual sessions offer the same level of care and connection as in-person appointments — with the convenience of meeting from your home or another private space. Many clients choose to combine in-person and online sessions depending on their needs and schedule.
